Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) member Ranjan Ramanayake has been granted a special presidential pardon.

Former Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake was convicted over contempt of court charges in January 2021 and was sentenced to a prison term of four years of rigorous imprisonment.

The Sri Lankan actor and politician yesterday apologized to the court for committing contempt of court.

In an affidavit to the court, he said his comments were untrue and that he would withdraw the said comments.

Meanwhile, the President’s Secretary said he has signed a document for a conditional presidential pardon for former MP Ranjan Ramanayake with the approval of the President.

The former MP has been ordered not to make any statements insulting the judiciary in the future as a condition of his pardon. (NewsWire)
