Woman arrested with jewellery stolen from DIG’s vehicle

A woman has been arrested in connection to an investigation launched into violent incidents that were reported in the Panchikawatte area in Maradana during the countrywide unrest on 09th May.

The Police said the investigation was conducted into the attack and setting of fire to two Police vehicles and the assault of a DIG  and a Superintendent of Police who had travelled in the vehicles. 

They further said the investigation had also been carried out pertaining to the robbery of gold jewellery that had been inside the two Police vehicles. 

The Police said the investigations had resulted in a woman being arrested by officials from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for being in possession of the stolen gold jewellery. 

The woman has been identified as a 28-year-old resident of Maligawatte. 

The Criminal Investigations Department is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
