The Sri lanka Police has launched an investigation to apprehend individuals who had pushed politicians and Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) loyalists into the Beira Lake following the attack on anti-government protesters in May.
A group of SLPP loyalists attacked peaceful anti-government protests near the Temple Trees and the Galle Face Green on 09th May resulting in a countrywide unrest.
Following the attacks on peaceful protesters, angry public rounded up a few of the SLPP loyalists and dunked them in the Beira Lake in Colombo making them stay in the water for a few hours.
An individual who is reported to have stolen money from a SLPP provincial council member and pushed him into the Beira Lake was arrested from the Wekanda area in Colombo recently.
The suspect who was arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) is a 34-year-old resident of Dematagoda.
The suspect along with a group of individuals have confronted the SLPP provincial council member who was travelling in a bus, had seized all his money, and had pushed him into the Beira Lake.
The Sri Lanka Police has been conducting continuous investigations to apprehend those who had pushed SLPP loyalists into the Beira Lake during the country wide unrest. (NewsWire)
