The damage caused to the Galle Face Green due to the ‘GotaGoGama’ protest site has been estimated as Rs. 4.9 million, the Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has revealed.
The Ministry said that measures are underway to ascertain the total damage caused to the Galle Face Green due to the ‘GotaGoGama’ protest site.
Stating that nearly Rs. 150,000 is required for preliminary repair work, the Ministry said that nearly Rs. 4.7 million is required to replant grass.
Earlier, subject Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said steps are being taken to legally obtain compensation from protesters for the damages caused to the Galle Face Green.
The public had set up a protest site under the banner ‘GotaGoGama’ at the Galle Face Green, calling on former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his government to resign over the economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
The ‘GotaGoGama’ protest site was in place for nearly three months and was recently dismantled by the protesters and the Police. (NewsWire)
