Four Police officers attached to the Malabe Police Station have been arrested on charges of stealing a gold chain and a mobile phone from a youth near Vidyalaya Junction in Kottawa.

The Police said the arrested officers are a Police Sergeant and three Police Constables.

One Police Constable is attached to the Police Special Task Force (STF) of the Malabe Police Station.

The Police have seized the three-wheeler that had been used in the crime and has also found the gold chain and the mobile phone that had been stolen.

The incident occurred when the youth who had visited his sister’s residence in the Weeraketiya area in Walasmulla on Sunday (20) had been waiting on the road opposite the house.

The Police officers had arrived in a three-wheeler and had stolen the youth’s properties after approaching him under the guise of inquiring about a road.

Following a complaint filed by the youth on the day after the incident, the Police traced the three-wheeler to a Police Constable attached to the Malabe Police Station.

The four Police officers are due to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court. (NewsWire)
