The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced that measures will be taken to reopen universities islandwide.

UGC Chairman Prof. Sampath Amaratunga said that academic activities at all universities will resume in September.

Prof. Sampath Amaratunga further said the decision was reached owing to the sense of normalcy that is prevalent in the country at present.

State universities were temporarily closed due to the fuel crisis in the country which severely affected the transportation of students and academic staff. (NewsWire)
