A 13-year-old child has been arrested for trying to steal money from a shop in Namaluwa area in Bandaragama.

The suspect boy had attacked the shop owner with a knife and tried to rob the shop, however the shop owner has managed to prevent him.

Following the incident, the suspect has fled the scene and was later arrested by the police while hiding. As a result of the assault, the 33-year-old shop owner sustained injuries on her abdomen and right arm.

The shop owner has told the police that the suspect boy had come to the store several times before and tried to rob money.

The police said that after recording a statement of the suspect boy, he was handed over to his parents. (NewsWire)
