A man has been arrested on charges of having stolen a diamond-encrusted gold ring worth Rs. 2.5 million that belonged to the daughter of a Cabinet Minister.
The ring had been stolen while the woman and her associates had stayed at a hotel near the Yala National Park over the weekend (13).
The suspect, a mason, is reported to have been working at a construction site near the said hotel.
According to the Kirinda Police, the woman had left her ring on the wall of the open bathroom at the resort while showering and had forgotten to retrieve it.
During this time, the mason is said to have taken the ring, but was identified after the Police had perused CCTV footage in the vicinity.
The Kirinda Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
