Thailand Foreign Ministry responds to reports on Gotabaya’s visit

Thailand has received a request for former Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to visit the country, Thailand’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday (Aug 10).

According to foreign media, Thailand’s foreign ministry spokesperson Tanee Sangrat said the former Sri Lanka President has no intention of seeking political asylum.

Tanee Sangrat further said that Thailand saw no problem with Rajapaksa entering on a diplomatic passport, which would allow him to stay for 90 days.

Thailand’s foreign ministry spokesperson did not say when Rajapaksa intended to visit.

Earlier, it was reported that former Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is expected to travel to Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday, the 11th of August. (NewsWire)
