Case against Hirunika: Court rejects Police request

The Fort Magistrate’s Court has rejected a request by the Police to name former MP Hirunika Premachandra and 10 others as suspects in a case related to a protest. 

The request was made when the case pertaining to Hirunika and the 10 others staging a protest in front of the President’s official residence in Fort was taken up for hearing today. 

Hirunika and the group were arrested over the protest that was staged on 06th July and later released on Police bail. 

The case was taken up for hearing before Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage today, where he rejected a request to name the group as suspects in the case. 

The judge had further instructed the Police to conduct proper investigations and submit documents to submit the request again. (NewsWire)
