More details have been released on the shooting incident that took place at the Mount Lavinia Court complex today.

The Secretary of the Mount Lavinia Lawyers Union Attorney-at Law Sheethma Fernando said the shooting had targetted one witness who had appeared for a case.

He said the suspect was among the group of people inside the courtroom and had approached the witness box and opened fire at the witness.

However, as the suspect was unable to injure the witness he left the courtroom and shot into the air as a threatening gesture before leaving the premises.

Attorney-at-Law Sheethma Fernando said the court case was adjourned for a short period of time following the shooting.

He added that investigations are underway to ascertain if the witness has any connections to any crimes. (NewsWire)
