Police arrest suspect with stolen President’s beer mug

An individual has been arrested on charges of having stolen a beer mug from the President’s official residence in Fort during the public protest on 09th July, the Lankadeepa reported. 

The suspect, a 46-year-old resident of Rangama, is employed in the welding industry and has been arrested by the Wellawa Police in Kurunegala. 

The Police said the suspect along with two other friends had participated in the Galle Face protest on 09th July and had entered the President’s official residence after it had been stormed by protesters. 

Thereafter, the group took possession of a beer bottle at the President’s house and used beer mugs found on the premises to consume the alcohol.

The suspect is said to have brought back the beer mug to his house as memorabilia. 

The Police said the man had shared a photograph with the beer mug along with his friends at the President’s house on his personal Facebook account. 

They said the suspect was identified according to investigations conducted by the Police into Facebook content related to the 09th July protests. 

The suspect has been charged with illegal entry into the President’s house and illegal possession of items, while the Police have taken the beer mug into custody. (NewsWire)
