A woman has been injured after being shot in the Solomon area in Eechankulam early last morning (01).

The Police said the woman had sustained the gunshot injury while she had been collecting firewood in a forest area behind her house. 

The injured woman has been admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital and has been identified as a 32-year-old resident of Kalmaduwa, Vavuniya.

The suspect who had carried out the shooting is yet to be identified, while the Vavuniya Police have launched an investigation into the incident. (NewsWire)
