Several incidents of drowning have been reported across various parts of Sri Lanka.
Two individuals have died while four are missing in drowning incidents that have been reported in the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.
A woman and her grandchild drowned after bathing in a river in the Hitinegama area in Polpitiya last afternoon.
The Police said the woman and her female grandchild had bathed in the river while on their way home from preschool.
The Police together with the area residents had rescued them, but they had died after being admitted to the Ginigathhena Hospital.
The victims have been identified as a 62-year-old woman and her 05-year-old granddaughter.
Meanwhile, two men and a woman are reported missing after they had drowned while crossing the Ketambulawa Oya in Nawalapitiya.
The Police said the incident occurred in the Akkarawatte area in Nawalapitiya last afternoon.
The missing individuals have been identified as 36, 46, and 47 year olds from the Ketambulawa area.
A search operation is underway to find the missing persons.
A 24-year-old individual is reported missing after falling into the Panmur reservoir in the Montfare division in Hatton last night.
The Police said the youth had been walking along with two others to his residence when the incident occurred.
The victim has been identified as a resident of Abosliwatte in Hatton and a search operation is underway to find him. (NewsWire)
