The Department for Registration of Persons today introduced the issuance of birth certificates with the inclusion of the Sri Lanka Identification Number (SLIN).

The initiative is being conducted together with the Registrar General’s Department as per a Cabinet decision that was taken in December 2021.

The pilot project of the initiative is to be launched in the Gampaha, Dehiwala, Hanguraketha, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, and Thamankaduwa Secretariat areas.

Those who obtain the new birth certificates can obtain their National Identity Cards at the age of 15 by providing the SLIN number to the Department for Registration of Persons. (NewsWire)
