Parliament protest: Stolen weapon found

The firearm that had been stolen from an Army soldier during the anti-government protest near the Parliament on 13th July has been found by the Sri Lanka Navy. 

The Police said protesters had assaulted the Army soldier and had stolen a T-56 firearm and some ammunition during the protest that was held near the Polduwa Junction in Battaramulla.

Sri Lanka Navy divers recovered the assault rifle and an empty Magazine from under the Diyawannawa Bridge on Saturday (23). 

The firearm and empty magazine have been handed over to the Welikada Police, which is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
