The increased railway fare will come into effect from midnight tomorrow, the 22nd of July, the Department of Railways announced today.
In June, the Cabinet granted approval to a proposal to increase train fares and other railway charges.
The government said that the hike in fuel prices has further increased the recurring losses in the Sri Lanka Railway Department resulting in being unable to provide proper service.
Thereby, in July, it was decided to increase the minimum fare for a 3rd class ticket will be Rs. 20.
