U-TURN : Speaker now says he mistakenly said President left the country

“President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa is still in the country, I made a mistake in the (BBC) interview” Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena told Indian News Agency ANI in a telephone call.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena yesterday told the BBC that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has left the island, he is in a nearby country and that he will be back in the country by Wednesday.
