New President to be elected on 20th July by Parliament if President resigns – Minister

Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says Party leaders have decided to elect a new President on 20th July if President Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigns on 13th July.

The following events will take place if the President resigns on 13th July as decided at the party leaders meeting.

  • Parliament will be convened on 15th July
  • Nominations for the post of President will be accepted on the 19th July
  • President will be elected on 20 July
