A group including Samagi Jana Balawegaya member Hirunika Premachandra and Vice Chairman of the SJB youth wing Rehan Jayawickreme, have been arrested by the Police during a protest near the President’s official residence in Fort today.

Hirunika Premachandra accompanied by a group of women and men staged the protest to show displeasure over the hardships faced by the public due to the economic crisis. 

The group of women including Hirunika Premachandra was arrested while being seated on the pavement outside the President’s official residence, while Rehan Jayawickreme was arrested while doing a live video via Facebook.

The arrested persons were boarded onto a bus and are being transported with Police security, while the destination is yet unknown. (NewsWire)
