Speaking in Parliament on Monday (04) opposition lawmaker and former Minister Wimal Weerawansa emphasized that people in the country are facing immense difficulties. He also criticized President Gotabaya Rajapaksa for lack of empathy. He said that the people expect some positive news from their leader but said “President is nowhere to be seen”.

The President needs to at least say something to bring some relief to the emotional pain the citizens are facing. There isn’t even a glimpse of hope on the horizon. By being in the opposition, we don’t gain anything from the suffering of the people. We are also making an effort to bring some relief. If anyone thinks that by bringing Ranil Wickremesinghe as the Prime Minister would gain some trust in the international community, they are mistaken. He is a failed candidate who only came into parliament through the national list”, he added.
